I first met Julian around the gig scene when I was about 15yrs old, at the Queens Rollo in Barrow (circa 1998) I remember being blown away by the punk madness of Scum Banana & later 12ft Machete. He looked like an absolute rockstar in his leather trews and long hair like Eddie Vedder. I would spot the old ambulance he used to drive around in painted army green parked round Hindpool. Later when I joined Deatbeats I couldn't believe his energy levels & how much he poured into each and every performance, he carried us all. He was so mischievous with it too, nearly getting us kicked out after our Manchester Academy gig for climbing on speaker stacks wearing a nightie! He was SO creative & inventive with every costume - they were legendary (the golden onion, knife hands, the huge leather tail..) He could fix or create anything and everything and behind it all, modest, introspective, quiet, dedicated to his family... An impossibly talented man. Ju also made the most potent but delicious strawberry wine ever that he would share generously & I fondly remember Diana (incredible strong woman!) having to carry him to bed at a fantastic house party, knocking half the pictures off the wall as he went. He was an absolute legend & his loss will affect all who knew him profoundly.
