Appreciations of Julian's Life

Created by BRYAN 4 years ago

An appreciation from Julian's family

Though none of Julian's family believes in an after-life, we know that who Julian was and what he did  - his commitment to believing only what there is good reason to believe, his genuine concern for people  who were in any way disadvantaged [including the special school children with whom he worked] and his capability as a musician, craftsman, mechanic, artist, canoeist, allotment-holder, forester, friend, life-partner and most especially as a terrific dad - will  live on in the many people on whom he had a positive influence.

Julian was, perhaps, something of an uncut diamond, but a high-carat diamond nonetheless.

A deeply felt and profoundly moving appreciation from a long-standing friend of Julian

It is difficult to find adequate words to convey the great sadness resulting from the devastating news that came from Blackpool on Sunday. Julian was in many ways larger than life, and it is hard to imagine him not being there, because he always was there when you needed him (and sometimes when you didn’t).

He has been large in my life since I was seventeen years old. I now realise what a major influence he has been on me as a person. This was not just in relation to music and art, but my entire philosophical outlook on life and the world. He was a ridiculously intelligent individual, although he rarely flaunted it. Always practical. Always loyal. Always honest. Always understanding. Always available. Always Julian.

I was fortunate to be the beneficiary of Julian’s friendship for almost thirty five years, and feel so much richer for the experience. I am at least so grateful that we shared some of the journey together. It has been cruelly cut short, but the quality of the time we had was wholly enriching. I know that many people will feel the same.
